STRUCTURAL DESIGN SINCE 1954

SPECIALIZING IN
HIGH-RISE CONRETE BUILDINGS

Rosenwasser / Grossman Consulting Engineers, P.C. is a New York City structural engineering firm with more than 70 years of experience in the design of high-rise reinforced concrete buildings. RGCE has engineered residential, mixed-use, commercial and institutional structures throughout New York City, with extensive experience in concrete flat-plate construction, slender towers, complex transfer systems and efficient structural design.

Our approach combines structural performance, constructability and economy to develop practical concrete building systems for developers and architects. This extends beyond structural design to include comprehensive construction documents and close coordination with the architect and MEP team throughout each phase of the design process.

OUR APPROACH TO HIGH-RISE CONCRETE DESIGN

1. EFFICIENT DESIGN

Efficient structural design begins with selecting the right structural system. RGCE works with owners and architects from the earliest stages of a project to develop concrete structural systems that balance performance, economy, constructability and architectural objectives. Particular attention is given to repetitive floor construction, practical framing systems and minimizing unnecessary structural complexity.

2. EXPERIENCE

Experience matters in high-rise concrete design. Since 1954, RGCE has designed structural systems for buildings throughout New York City, including generations of increasingly tall, slender and complex reinforced concrete structures. This experience provides perspective that extends beyond structural calculations to constructability, sequencing, coordination and cost.

3. CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS

4. COORDINATION

A successful structural design must be clearly communicated to the people constructing the building. RGCE places significant emphasis on the quality, completeness and coordination of our structural drawings. We view construction document production as an integral part of the engineering process—not simply the documentation of a completed structural analysis.

High-rise structural design is an iterative and collaborative process. RGCE works closely with architects, developers, MEP engineers and other consultants throughout design to integrate the structural system with the requirements of the building. Early and continuous coordination helps resolve interdisciplinary requirements before they become construction issues.

5. The A-Team, not a team

Every project deserves the A-Team. RGCE is intentionally a small, focused firm where clients have direct access to the people responsible for their work—including the President of the firm who is involved in EVERY project. We believe personal involvement matters. The attention we invest early in a project pays dividends throughout design, coordination and construction.

6. Let me ask you a dopey question

Where does the water go when the backflow preventer blows? What is the minimum closet width for a secondary bedroom? How far can you legally reach to clean a window from the inside?

They may have nothing to do with structure—and that's the point. We encourage our engineers to understand the entire building. That curiosity creates a shared understanding among the design team and ultimately leads to better integrated buildings.

FEATURED PROJECT
HUNTERS POINT PARCEL C

"New development requires fresh space, and when it comes to affordable housing in New York City that space is often relegated to far-off corners in remote, unconnected sites. However, former Mayor Michael Bloomberg implemented an affordable housing initiative focused on community interaction, and prime real estate, starting with a competition to develop city-donated land at Hunter’s Point Parcel C in Long Island City---a bid ODA won. The biggest affordable housing project New York City has completed in the past 40 years, the 1.4 million square feet of residential and retail space is slated to provide 1,400 apartments as well as a school for local kids."
